why you should have your newborn checked by a chiropractor

Birth is… Beautiful… Tiring… Amazing… and a whole lot more. It is A LOT of trauma on mom’s body as baby is passing through the birth canal. It’s not just traumatic on mom… It’s also traumatic on the star of the show. You child! Especially if interventions are used such as forceps, suction, epidurals and C-sections. This is why it is important to get your newborn checked by a chiropractor after birth!

When we are taught to hold a child, what is the first thing they teach us? SUPPORT THEIR HEAD! This is because a newborn child doesn’t have the muscle and ligament support to protect their head and neck. During the birthing process, a lot of force is applied to your childs spine as they are navigating through the birth canal. As more interventions are used, traction stresses the upper neck structures to the point where damage is a common occurance. This is the region of your childs spine which controls sleep, development, digestion, immune function and so much more. When damage to this area goes unchecked, kiddos develop symptoms such as colic, reflux, constipation, ear infections, sleep troubles and so much more. Assessing your child’s spine and neurological health after birth helps us prevent these issues and give your child the best possible start to a health, happy life.
